Wilton’s Music Hall
Completion: 2015
Location: London
Wilton’s Music Hall is the only surviving example of a Victorian Giant Pub Music Hall - it was in halls like this that variety entertainment as we know it evolved. We worked with Wilton’s Music Hall Trust for nine years to raise the funds needed to save the Music Hall. We took a new approach to Conservation, not “restoring” the building in the usual sense, but by doing only what was essential to make it secure, safe and usable, aiming to preserve the very special atmosphere of a derelict theatre rediscovered.
“there was great skill deployed in the way the building has been reconfigured and upgraded without a loss of patina and atmosphere. ”
“it’s the real thing, adroitly managed. Ronalds, by downplaying his visible architecture almost to zero, has proved exactly what a good architect, with an engaged client, can do.”
“A remarkable restoration project breathes life back into one of London’s unique music venues”
